Anybody else seeing this and if so is anybody has anyone been able to resolve the issues with Synology NAS, Plex and the Apple TV 4K. 22 and there’s no improvement with the Apple TV 4K. While I really am in Apple aficionado I’ve given up on Plex and AppleTV 4. The Amazon fire stick is also $31 compared to the Apple TV costĪnd works without a hiccup on any size video I’m trying to watch through Plex. VLC has a basic interface but can access network shares and DLNA servers. Plex Media Server can run a separate DLNA server. Then use the Mac Plex app (sees to be a browser wrapper) to connect to the server. In trying to troubleshoot my Synology prior to buying the fire stick I thought that my NAS was the issue - now I realize it’s actually the Apple TV 4K version one and two that is. Alternatively, you can spin up Plex Media Server on the NAS and create just a music library. While I don’t like the user interface Plex works perfectly with my Synology NAS. I’ve given up on playing Plex through my Apple TV 4K and I’ve moved to an Amazon fire stick 4K max.

I have a 64 bit five Bay Nas they were perfectly with the original Apple TV boxes until 4K and it would transcode any media file without issue prior to ATV 4K– I have both a AtV 4K 1st and 2nd generation unit.

On Synology you can install iTunes Server 0 and then just use native. I get video lagging, buffering & error just saying my processor speed isn’t fast enough and sometimes even not all my videos show up on the Plex app. Youd have to look at alternatives for the media server (Plex) if you want to use. Please let me know if I'm not thinking about this correctly.Ever since I’ve upgraded to the 4K Apple TV the Plex app works horribly. That would probably duplicate the majority of the logic in Plex that already does the same thing but it would be cleaner. But at that point, it's probably better to write a Plex plug-in that does it.

So, I assume I could leave my current libraries in tact and run some insert statements on the target database to generate the necessary metadata.

After inspecting the data in .db, I noticed that a playlist is just a metadata_item attached to an existing media_item which has a media_type of 15 (I assume that is a code for playlist). There might be a monthly subscription model too. You’ll need to pay for a Plex Pass to do this, I think it’s like 100, lifetime. Then all your different clients access it via the Plex app. If you want all features you need to pay for PlexPass aswell, it's not much but still. You can install Plex Media Server and have it running on the Synology. The Plex Media Server organizes video, audio. I kind of prefer Plex (it has more features and options to configure) but at the same time, it's not always entirely reliable. Plex is an American streaming media service and a clientserver media player platform, made by Plex, Inc. I was curious as to what it was doing when it copied playlists from iTunes so I ran some tests on my laptop. With 'Synology Media Server' I guess you mean 'Video Station' I've used them both quite a bit. I then tried various steps to get it to import the playlist information from that without success. So, I copied over one that had the playlist and track information in it from my laptop. I noticed the Plex folder did not have a .db database on the Synology. So, I tried a couple of other things without success. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like you can migrate just one library like 'Music' while leaving other libraries like 'Movies' untouched. From reading the steps on the wiki describing the process to copy over server content, it looks like it will overwrite all the existing content on the target server. I didn't want to copy over all of the plex server content because I already have several other libraries setup on the Synology that took a while to get indexed.
